FOUNDER'S BIO
Pure Scientific was founded by Dr. Jerry Schlesser who has dedicated 35 years of professional experience to researching, designing and producing clinical dietary supplements for the integrative medical community.
Dr. Schlesser began his distinguished career, graduating from Western States Chiropractic College in 1976. He went on to pursue a doctoral degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM). Following medical school, Dr. Schlesser founded NF Formulas, one of the oldest, trusted manufacturers of clinical dietary supplements to health professionals. He established his reputation, credibility and commitment to the integrative medical community by serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon for seven years. During this period, he presided over the transition to a new campus, recruitment of world class faculty and curriculum updates that confirmed the need to expand the legal scope of practice. As Chairman, Dr. Schlesser oversaw the legislative process to define the scope of practice to reflect the educational training and standards which resulted in the prescribing law for Naturopathic Physicians in Oregon in effect today.
After a hiatus from NCNM and in the interest of serving the profession, Dr. Schlesser was recruited to serve on the Board of Trustees at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington.
For seven years, Dr. Schlesser hosted a weekly one hour medical news program called “New Horizons in Science and Medicine,” on Portland's NPR affiliate KBOO 90.7 FM, which received an award from the American Medical Association for “Contributions to the betterment of the nation's welfare through the dissemination of health information to the American people.” Dr. Schlesser was also one of the earliest members of the Oregon AIDS task force, which prompted his interest in researching viral diseases.
A scientist as well as a physician, Dr. Schlesser went on to invent InterVir-A - an antiviral pharmaceutical evaluated at Oregon Health Sciences University. The results of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multi-center clinical trial were published in the international medical journal, The Lancet (p<0.00005). He founded and operated BioPharmaceuticals Corporation, designing and constructing Oregon's first FDA-licensed prescription GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing facility specifically to commercialize InterVir-A, which was later licensed to a multinational pharmaceutical company.
During his antiviral research, Dr. Schlesser discovered the need for an international reference of drugs available outside the US. He was appointed Editor in Chief of “Drugs Available Abroad” – the first international drug reference used by physicians, hospitals, armed services, insurance companies and other participants in the US healthcare industry. Drugs Available Abroad (DAA) was published by Gale Research and distributed by Medical Economics Press, publisher of the Physicians Desk Reference (PDR). During this time, he was an active member of the Drug Information Association, Food & Drug Law Institute and the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society. Dr. Schlesser recruited a world-class advisory board for DAA including representatives from: FDA, WHO, USP, PAHO, Commission of European Communities, Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and many more. Drugs Available Abroad won the coveted "RASD" (Reference & Adult Services Division) award and was named "an outstanding reference source" -- the highest honor given by the American Library Association.
In addition to his research and accomplishments, Dr. Schlesser was the first Naturopathic Physician to be conferred board certification as a "Certified Nutrition Specialist" by the Certification Board of Nutrition Specialists of the American College of Nutrition. Following this certification in the 1990s, Dr. Schlesser worked with the specialists at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Tulsa, Oklahoma to develop a the first, comprehensive nutritional protocol at CTCA as an adjunct to conventional cancer treatment.
Dr. Schlesser's interest in the impact of nutrition on human behavior, brain function and learning prompted him to develop a dietary supplement for children designed to support and improve academic performance (cognition) and behavior. The first trial of this product was conducted over a decade ago in a US public school. The results were so impressive that PBS broadcast a documentary called "How to Turn Around A Failing School" which chronicled the success of a school that instituted a comprehensive wellness program called "Eat, Exercise, Excel" in which the E3MV™ (Eat Exercise Excel Multi-Vitamin) chewable vitamin he invented was dispensed. Over the years, thousands of children have been dispensed Dr. Schlesser's chewable supplement by their teachers in public schools in the United States. Test scores and interviews given by parents, teachers, administrators and most importantly kids, show that nutrition has a profoundly positive impact on their academic performance, behavior and the quality of their lives. FOX News followed up several years after the PBS documentary to show that the program's beneficial results were significant and lasting.
E3MV received a US patent #7,771,756 for a “Nutritional Supplement to Enhance Learning, Academic Performance and Behavioral Functioning” and is now the first patented chewable vitamin dispensed to thousands of US public school children daily.
In early 2000, Dr. Schlesser was approached by coaching professionals for top sports leagues to design human performance nutrition and recovery products to support professional athletes. This research launched Advantig Health & Sport, which originally began by catering to high performance athletes, fitness professionals and athletes who integrate scientific nutrition into their training regimen. Over the years, these products have been "race tested & proven" used by Olympic athletes, professional athletes, world-class endurance athletes (including triathletes, ironmen, double decathletes, ultramarathon runners) and other finely tuned, serious athletes worldwide who continue to break personal and world records.
In 2012, we added NovaJoint to our line of products to support the joint health concerns of our aging society. NovaJoint is a new paradigm joint care product that contains none of the typical joint formulations ingredients like glucosamine or chondroitin and is becoming the clinical joint care product preferred by integrative medical practitioners and chiropractors nationwide.
In mid 2013 we proudly introduced the e-Factor Cognitive Support Formula which has its own dedicated website at efactorinfo.com. e-Factor represents the latest research in brain support nutrients, plus additional components to support healthy aging.
Throughout his career, Dr. Schlesser has supported the needs of healthcare professionals who rely on nutritional products with documented scientific support to treat their patients.
Pure Scientific offers unique, evidence-based products designed from a foundation of solid science and clinical experience, exclusively to healthcare professionals.
